New Language Pairings is a groundbreaking library-led initiative to empower all EU citizens, including migrants, to learn new languages effectively at their own pace.

Recognizing the challenges faced by non-English speakers and the critical need for migrant integration and inclusion, we have developed a unique approach.

Language Learning in your own Language

In January 2025, Danish Central Libraries (DCL)  in collaboration with Transparent Language Online (TLO), launched a transformative new language service bringing effective language learning to all citizens and newcomers to Denmark.

Inspired by the success of Denmark’s new language learning program, we are now opening access to TLO’s high-quality language courses for all EU library systems.

  • For All Citizens: TLO provides a diverse range of language courses taught entirely in the learner’s native language, eliminating the need for English proficiency. This empowers citizens to learn new languages based on their own linguistic foundation, fostering multilingualism and cultural understanding.
  • For Migrants:  TLO offers “Language for Integration” courses in multiple languages (e.g., Arabic, Ukrainian, Dari) specifically designed to help newcomers navigate everyday life in their host country. These courses cover essential topics like finding housing, accessing healthcare, and understanding local customs.

Key Benefits for your Library:

  • Enhanced Community Engagement: Attract new library patrons and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Supporting Migrant Integration: Provide valuable support for migrants and refugees.
  • Fostering Multilingualism: Empower all citizens to learn languages and enrich their lives.
  • Increased Library Usage: Offer a valuable and engaging service that benefits the entire community.
