The EDGE conference in Edinburgh last week lived up to its billing as the UK’s best public library meeting with a strong international cast of speakers, decision-making delegates and positive vibrations all round. It was a pleasure to attend as one of the sponsors and well worth the cost.

Highlights included: the immaculate organisation and facilities, courtesy of Edinburgh Libraries’ Grainne Crawford; the inspirational speech by Darren Taylor about his work on Lewisham and Bexley community libraries; the international inputs; and most of all the warmth of Edinburgh Libraries’ welcome.

It was heartening to see so many bright and committed library people being inspired by a well thought out and brilliantly run event.

DCA made some great new friends and Nicola’s daughter Faith’s cat photo book was a minor sensation.
